• The History, Mission, and Vision of Branford Cares

• Branford Cares is a volunteer collaboration of community leaders, dedicated to caring for Branford residents with particular unmet needs. Chartered in 2012, the organization sought and obtained 501©(3) non-profit status in 2013.

  But that’s not where we started. We wanted to build a grass roots organization and began in the summer of 2012 by mobilizing people throughout the community to hold fundraising block parties, tag sales, lemonade stands, birthday parties and other creative, fun events. Neighbors helping neighbors. We still love that idea.

  After securing tax exempt status, fundraising activities expanded to larger events, including craft fairs and the Branford Yacht Club’s annual “Taste of Branford” celebration. The organization has now contributed nearly $100,000 to various agencies in Branford that provide critical social services to its residents.

  More recently, Branford Cares has established its own Rental Subsidy Program and is now excited to announce its most recent initiative, Branford Cares Connects.

  MISSION
  The mission of Branford Cares is to strengthen this community by strengthening the quality of life for each person and each household. Minimally, the basic needs (food, clothing, shelter, medical care, transportation, and utilities) of every child and adult is met through sufficient resources; every person seeking information and access to services receives assistance navigating the system they need; neighbors show compassion and support through creative acts of generosity and volunteering.

  VISION
  Our vision for Branford is a more aware, compassionate, and integrated community in which our citizens embrace a collective responsibility to one another, particularly those who are less fortunate. We imagine a town in which it is deemed a privilege to make sacrifices for the good of others.
• WHAT WE DO
• 1. Raise awareness of needs within the Branford community, whether or not those needs are being adequately met by Branford’s existing social service safety net.
  2. Encourage individuals and organizations to create fundraising events in order to support Branford’s existing web of social services.
  3. Provide information on existing local resources covering a wide variety of agencies, within Branford and the New Haven area. Branford Cares Connects links people to information, resources, and services.
  4. Provide a unique rental assistance program—Branford Cares Rental Subsidy Program.
